Every precinct in the state will meet for precinct caucuses on February 2 and elected delegates to their BPOU convention. The BPOU convention meets on one day between February 13 and March 13 to elect delegates to the state convention. The candidate for governor will be endorsed at the state convention on the weekend of April 30 and May 1.
Delegates are citizens elected to endorse a candidate for the party. The Minnesota GOP breaks the state down into Basic Political Organizational Units, or BPOUs. BPOUs are seperated by either state senate district, state house district, or county borders.
Precinct caucuses are typically a two hour event in the evening. BPOU conventions are typically held on a Saturday morning and will last around six hours. The state convention lasts two days.
For precinct caucuses, nothing. There is typically a nominal registration fee at BPOU conventions to cover the cost of the convention, typically around $15.
