Andrew MacDonald has been in the gaming industry since 1978. He began his career as a Dealer at the Wrest Point Hotel and Casino in Tasmania, Australia. At this point in time Wrest Point was the only legalised Casino operating in Australia. Mr. MacDonald rose to the position of Pit Boss by age twenty five.

 

In late 1985, Mr. MacDonald left Wrest Point to follow a parallel career path in the regulatory side of the Casino industry. This took him to Queensland, Australia, where he was employed by the state’s Casino Control Division. Initially those duties saw him train Government Inspectors in all facets of Casino Operations for both the Conrad Jupiters and Sheraton Breakwater Casinos. This period also entailed drafting game rules, procedures and internal control documents. Having completed that task with diligence and care, Andrew was employed as a Supervising Casino Inspector at the Jupiters Casino. This included gaming surveillance, audit activities, liaison with the Casino Crime Squad and liaison with public sector and Casino Senior Management.

 

In late 1986, Mr. MacDonald relocated to Sydney, New South Wales, having been sought to similarly work for the New South Wales Casino Control Division on their Darling Harbour Casino project. As this project ran into difficulty, due to political reasons, Mr. MacDonald became involved in reviewing Casino tenders and used the time to greatly increase his knowledge of the industry both from a regulatory and operational perspective. The closure of the New South Wales Casino Control Division in late 1987 saw Mr. MacDonald briefly employed as a Supervising Inspector with the Liquor Administration Board conducting slot machine audits at Registered Clubs around Sydney.

 

In late 1987, Mr. MacDonald was employed by the Adelaide Casino in a start-out role as an Inspector, followed by Pit Boss and Gaming Analyst. This more effectively utilised his mathematical and analytical skills. By 1991 he was promoted to Gaming Manager to oversee the administration of table game operations.

 

In 1993, at age thirty three, he was promoted to Senior Executive of Casino Operations overseeing the operation of 90 table games, 900 slots, Keno, VIP Services, Scheduling and the Casino’s Statistical Intelligence Unit. By 1994, Mr. MacDonald was effectively Deputy Chief Executive of the Adelaide Casino. This saw him involved in tendering for new Casino ventures, strategic planning, marketing and development of the entire operation. Mr. MacDonald resigned from The Adelaide Casino in late 1996 after being approached by the President of Hilton Gaming Worldwide.

 

In November 1996 he was appointed Casino Manager of Online Casino Singapore on the Queensland Gold Coast after considering several options with the Hilton Group.

 

In April, 1998, Mr. MacDonald was approached by Crown Limited in Melbourne to join them as a Senior Member of the Executive Team as a turnaround agent and strategist. This position optimised the use of his administrative skills, mathematical abilities and marketing strengths. At age forty he was promoted to CEO of PBL Gaming Operations a wholly owned subsidiary of PBL, Crown’s parent company. In this capacity he is responsible for taking PBL’s gaming operations into new jurisdictions through both the Online gaming operation and evaluation of mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures.
